Plan afoot to allow farmers sell produce to consumers directly.
Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan on Sunday said the government is working on a model to allow farmers to sell their produce directly to consumers, reducing middlemen's role. Interacting with about 400 farmers after the Republic Day parade at Pusa campus, Chouhan emphasized that the 'farm to consumer' model will help farmers get maximum benefits, an official statement said.

India's exports to US up 5.57% to $60 billion in April-December FY25.
The country's exports rose by 5.57 per cent to USD 59.93 billion during April-December this fiscal on account of healthy demand in the American market for domestic goods, according to government data. During December, the shipments increased by 8.49 per cent to USD 7 billion, the data showed. On the other hand, imports during the first nine months of 2024-25 grew by 1.91 per cent to USD 33.4 billion, while in December it was up by 9.88 per cent to USD 3.77 billion.

India-Africa Trade Council hosts meet in Kochi.
The India-Africa Trade Council hosted the India-Sierra Leone trade meet in Kochi on Wednesday (January 22) bringing together stakeholders from the south Indian business community. Besides Asif Iqbal, president of the Indian Economic Trade Organisation, and Rashid Sesay, High Commissioner of Sierra Leone to India, and a diplomatic delegation, including the Information Attaché from the Embassy of Sierra Leone in Abu Dhabi attended.

No talks with Pakistan on trade resumption: EAM Jaishankar.
External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar stated on Wednesday that there have been no discussions with Pakistan regarding the resumption of trade with India. Addressing a question during a news conference, he said, 'After last year, there have been no talks on trade with Pakistan, nor has there been any initiative from their side.'

India-Sierra Leone Trade Conference calls for strengthening bilateral ties.
The India-Sierra Leone Trade Conference here has underscored India’s expanding role in Sierra Leone’s economy with bilateral trade reaching $139.86 million in 2019-20, witnessing a 13 per cent growth. The conference hosted by India-Africa Trade Council noted that India ranked among Sierra Leone’s top five trading partners with key exports include pharmaceuticals, plastics, non-basmati rice, and industrial machinery.

Governor of Gujarat Shri Acharya Devarat ji emphasised that natural farming practices recognise the interdependence of the natural ecosystem and human requirements. Inaugurating a two-day national workshop on natural farming conducted by the Union Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare at Gujarat Natural Farming Science University, Halol, Gujarat today, the Governor said the natural farming improves soil health, restores natural ecosystems and reduces the dependency of farmers on the external market, reduces input cost, provides greater climate resilience and most of all offers safe and a healthy food and environment for our future generations.

India set to raise farm budget by over 15%, biggest increase in six years.
