Jan 28, 2025 News Image IFAD Associate Vice President Shri Donal Brown meets Agriculture Secretary Shri Devesh Chaturvedi.
Mr. Donal Brown, Associate Vice President of the International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD), called on Dr. Devesh Chaturvedi, Secretary of Department of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare (DA&FW) at Krishi Bhawan in New Delhi today. During the meeting, Mr Brown appreciated India’s role as a founding member of IFAD, and longstanding and productive partnership with IFAD. Mr. Brown briefed the Secretary about IFAD’s collaborative projects with state governments, particularly in the North Eastern and Himalayan regions, focusing on building climate-resilient agricultural value chains; empowering women, youth, tribal communities; supporting marginalized farmers; and strengthening rural infrastructure.

A meeting aimed at strengthening trade relations and encouraging Japanese companies to establish operations in Mangaluru, capitalising on the region’s robust infrastructure, skilled workforce, and strategic connectivity, took place on Wednesday. The session was hosted by Kanara Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KCCI) President Anand G. Pai, who welcomed a Japanese delegation led by Prof. Gopal Mugeraya, Vice-President of Technical Education at NITTE, along with Prof. Harikrishna Bhat, Director of International Collaborations for the Asia-Pacific Region; Komatsu Shinya, Prefectural Assembly Member and Former Vice Chairman of Japan; Katsutoshi Seiwa, Director of the Industrial Technology Innovation Division, Japan; Ito Susumu, Chief of Industrial Technology; Kotaro Kurosaka, CEO of Sanyo Machinery Company; and Tadashi Ariji, Group Manager at Boehringer Ingelheim Yamagata Factory, at the KCCI Meeting Hall in Mangaluru.

Rice prices from top exporter India extended declines to an 18-month low on rising supplies amid depreciation in the rupee, while weak demand pushed Thai rates to a two-year trough. India's 5% broken parboiled variety was quoted at $429-$435 per metric ton this week, the lowest since July 2023 and down from the last week's $431-$440.

Agricultural and Processed Food Products Export Development Authority (APEDA) chairman Abhishek Dev said India was on course to make its organic agro products increasingly visible across the global market. He was speaking at the BioFest ’25 recently, a conclave of organic farmers and domestic and global buyers of organic produce, organised by International Competence Centre For Organic Agriculture, (ICCOA), a knowledge and learning centre for all aspects of sustainable and organic agriculture.

India and Indonesia have agreed to address technical trade barriers, according to Chief Economic Affairs Minister Airlangga Hartarto. Airlangga recently met with Indian Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal on the sidelines of the India-Indonesia CEOs forum in New Delhi. The forum was part of President Prabowo Subianto’s visit to India as the chief guest on New Delhi’s Republic Day.

Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan on Sunday said the government is working on a model to allow farmers to sell their produce directly to consumers, reducing middlemen's role. Interacting with about 400 farmers after the Republic Day parade at Pusa campus, Chouhan emphasized that the 'farm to consumer' model will help farmers get maximum benefits, an official statement said.

Jan 27, 2025 News Image India's exports to US up 5.57% to $60 billion in April-December FY25.
The country's exports rose by 5.57 per cent to USD 59.93 billion during April-December this fiscal on account of healthy demand in the American market for domestic goods, according to government data. During December, the shipments increased by 8.49 per cent to USD 7 billion, the data showed. On the other hand, imports during the first nine months of 2024-25 grew by 1.91 per cent to USD 33.4 billion, while in December it was up by 9.88 per cent to USD 3.77 billion.
