Tripura achieves record growth in potato cultivation with ARC technology
The State has made significant advancements in potato farming, and the introduction of ARC technology has led to increased yields. This initiative will contribute to Tripura's self-sufficiency in seed production, Nath said during the budget session in the State Legislative Assembly. Potato cultivation in Tripura dates back to the 17th century when European traders introduced it. However, the first major expansion occurred between 1940 and 1947, with the State adopting popular varieties like up-to-date Lalit, Kufri Jyoti and Kufri Sindhuri.

60% wheat area sown under climate-resilient varieties: Govt in Rajya Sabha
Out of total wheat area planted in the country during 2024-25, more than 60 per cent of wheat area is under climate resilient varieties. These climate-resilient varieties show less reduction in yield under stress environments, he added.

India, US hold trade talks; to work towards negotiating first tranche of FTA
Representatives of India's Department of Commerce and the Office of the U.S. Trade Representative held meeting in the national capital for four days beginning March 26 as a follow up to the two countries agreeing to expand bilateral trade to reach USD 500 billion by 2030, including through the conclusion of a Bilateral Trade Agreement (BTA).

Bangladesh: Ship carrying 9,500 tonnes of parboiled rice from India arrives at Ctg port.
Under the open tender agreement, a total of 4.5 lakh tonnes of rice is being imported from India in nine packages. Of this, around 2.97 tonnes have already arrived in the country, according to a press release from the Ministry of Food issued today (27 March). The sample testing of the rice on the vessel has been completed, and unloading operations will commence soon. Necessary preparations have been made to facilitate the process, the press release said.

Indian exports soften on global tariff uncertainties, government says.
India's export growth has softened in the current fiscal year due to global tariff-related developments that have raised trade risks and affected investments and trade flows, the government said in its February economic report on Wednesday. Uncertainties around trade policies, geopolitical tensions, and volatile commodity prices pose significant risks to next year's growth outlook, the government said, while retaining its growth estimate for the fiscal year 2024/2025 at 6.5%.
