Looking to double turmeric production to 20 lakh tonnes in 5 years, says Commerce Minister Piyush Goyal.
The National Turmeric Board will help develop new markets internationally to promote exports and double production to about 20 lakh tonnes in the next five years, Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal said on Tuesday.

Union Minister of Commerce and Industry Shri Piyush Goyal has said that under the dynamic leadership of Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi, during the last 10 years, 10 foundational principles of governance have been the pillar of this decade of unprecedented transformation. The foundational principles include decisive leadership, root cause analysis, outcome-oriented action, rule of law & transparency, time-bound execution, Prioritization of issues, accountability & monitoring, adoption of technology, innovative financing and partnership with all stakeholders. The Minister made these remarks in Chennai today while rendering a speech at theThuglak Annual Meet.

DGFT updates export policy for every product to promote ease of doing business.
The Commerce Ministry's arm DGFT on Monday updated the export policy for all products, specifying detailed conditions for each item to enhance the ease of doing business in the country. Earlier specific policy conditions were only outlined for goods which were subject to certain restrictions or fell under some norms.

European demand lifts Indian soyameal exports in December.
Soyameal exports are up a tad during December at 2.77 lakh tonnes (lt) on higher demand from European buyers such as Germany and Netherlands. However, the offtake by the domestic livestock feed sector was flat at 5.5 lt, as per the latest estimates by the trade body Soyabean Processors Association of India (SOPA).

Optimistic about higher agri growth in FY25 on good monsoon: Principal secy to PM.

India’s Agriculture Ministry holding survey on edible oil consumption pattern.
In a first, the Union Agriculture Ministry is conducting a survey on edible oils using the 'My Gov' platform to formulate a policy for farmers to produce what consumers want. This will lso benefit farmers also as they will cultivate demand-driven crops and help the country move towards self-sufficiency in edible oil.

Nepal to consider request for import of certain dairy products from India: Commerce minister.
India has flagged concerns over the problems faced by its milk exporters in Nepal, with the neighbouring country agreeing to explore the possibility of facilitating imports of specific products like whey and cheese, an official statement said on Sunday. The matter came up for discussions during the meeting of the India-Nepal Inter-Governmental Committee (IGC) on Trade, Transit, and Cooperation to Combat Unauthorised Trade, which was held in Kathmandu from January 10-11.

Governor Ravi bats for sustainable farming in organic way.
Tamil Nadu Governor R N Ravi urged farmers to embrace organic methods rather than utilising chemical fertilisers and pesticides to ensure sustainable farming practices. Addressing a Pongal celebration titled – Natural Farmers Pongal with Governor at Musiri Institute of Technology and College of Agriculture Technology (MIT-CAT) at Musiri in Trichy, on Saturday, Ravi emphasised the necessity of reverting to natural farming while abandoning chemical fertilisers.

Philippines: Rice import volume hits 4.8 million MT in 2024.
The government revised upward the country’s total rice import volume last year to nearly 4.8 million metric tons (MT) after the Bureau of Plant Industry (BPI) validated the rice shipment figures. Latest BPI data showed that total rice imports in 2024 reached a record-high of 4.78 million MT, about two percent higher than its initial figure of 4.684 million MT.
