The CBIC on Tuesday said it will introduce electronic processing of import/ export through personal carriage by air passengers from May 1 at specified airports. Nine airports at Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata, Chennai, Kochi, Coimbatore, Bangalore, Hyderabad and Jaipur would allow personal carriage export of gems and jewellery. Seven airports Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata, Chennai, Bangalore, Hyderabad and Jaipur would allow personal carriage import of gems and jewellery.

India on Tuesday notified exports of specified quantities of commodities like eggs, potatoes, onions, rice, wheat flour, sugar, and dal for the Maldives in the current fiscal year. The Directorate General of Foreign Trade (DGFT) in a notification said these exports have been permitted to the Maldives under the bilateral trade agreement between the countries in 2025-26.

India has exported 198.65 lakh tonnes of rice till March 25 of the last fiscal year, surpassing the outward shipment of 163.58 lakh tonnes in the entire 2023-24 financial year. In a written reply to Rajya Sabha, Minister of State for Food and Consumer Affairs Nimuben Jayantibhai Bambhaniya said, 'The domestic production of agri-commodities. their availability and import/export is monitored closely by the government...'.

The European Union is pressing for inclusion of a 'forward most-favoured-nation (MFN)' provision in free trade agreement (FTA) talks with India, which would require the latter to make concessions similar to those offered to the US in a proposed bilateral trade pact. The issue of MFN status figured during the last round of India-EU trade negotiations in Brussels held a fortnight ago, people familiar with the development said. Such a move would imply that reduced duties would apply uniformly across all imports.
