Union Minister of Commerce & Industry Shri Piyush Goyal today held a bilateral meeting with New Zealand’s Minister for Trade, Todd McClay, in Mumbai to advance discussions on the proposed India–New Zealand Free Trade Agreement (FTA). The engagement marked an important step in the ongoing negotiations, with both Ministers focusing on convergence across key disciplines relating to trade in goods and services.

The cumulative exports (merchandise & services) during April-October 2025 is estimated at US$ 491.80 Billion, as compared to US$ 469.11 Billion in April-October 2024, estimated growth of 4.84%.
India’s total exports (Merchandise and Services combined) for October 2025* is estimated at US$ 72.89 Billion, registering a negative growth of (-) 0.68 percent vis-à-vis October 2024. Total imports (Merchandise and Services combined) for October 2025* is estimated at US$ 94.70 Billion, registering a positive growth of 14.87 percent vis-à-vis October 2024.

Despite global price weakness and US tariffs, India’s agricultural exports show strong momentum in first half of current financial year.
India’s agricultural exports have been growing faster than the country’s overall merchandise exports, showing a strong performance even when many other sectors are slowing down. Government data for April to September 2025 shows that farm exports touched $25.9 billion, which is an increase of 8.8% from the same period last year, with $23.8 billion for the corresponding six months.

US tariff relief may boost India’s $1 bn farm exports.
The Trump administration’s decision to lift reciprocal tariffs on several agricultural commodities is expected to create a level playing field for Indian exporters, especially in fruits and nuts, spices, tea and coffee, essential oils, vegetables, bovine meat, and fertilisers, a senior official said. 'Over $1 billion worth of India’s agricultural products exports to the US annually have been exempted from tariff, which would boost export prospects,' the official added.

Bangladesh ramps up rice import to build a contingency stock with the buys having soared over 8,133 per cent in value during the first quarter of the current fiscal year, statistics show. 'Bangladeshi onion importers await government nod before supplies from India can resume'.
India's onion exports remain critical to international trade, but exporters continue to face challenges from unpredictable weather and restrictive trade policies, says Kiran Gandurde, Co-founder of Matoshree Fresh Foods. 'The current red onion season started much later than usual. Normally, we would see new crop arrivals by October, but prolonged rains pushed that back by 20 to 35 days. This delay means the first shipments of red onions from Nashik to Vietnam and Indonesia are just being arranged.'

India, Eurasia to meet every quarter to fast-track FTA, ease market barriers.
India and the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU) have agreed to meet every quarter at the regulator level to resolve market access hurdles, such as those related to certification and approval delays faced by agricultural and marine exporters, the commerce ministry said on Sunday. The decision was taken at a review meeting in Moscow, chaired by commerce secretary Rajesh Agrawal.
