India, Paraguay can expand trade with MERCOSUR, says PM Modi.
India and Paraguay can partner in expanding regional commerce in Latin America, said Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday (June 2, 2025). Mr. Modi welcomed Paraguay’s President Santiago Pena Palacios and presented the MERCOSUR trade bloc in Latin America as an arena where India and Paraguay can work together closely. Mr. Pena who is on his first visit to India described India as a 'key strategic partner' of his country.

9 'Clean Plant' Projects to be Launched across the Country, 3 of which to be in Maharashtra: Union Minister for Agriculture and Farmers Welfare, Shri. Shivraj Singh Chouhan.
Chief Minister of Maharashtra, Shri. Devendra Fadnavis and Union Minister for Agriculture and Farmers Welfare, Shri. Shivraj Singh Chouhan attended the concluding session of India’s first International Agri Hackathon in Pune. On the occasion, Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis asserted that the agriculture sector is facing many problems in the backdrop of current climate change and the use of modern technology is the only solution. He also expressed the need to incubate useful technologies from the Pune Agri Hackathon and take them directly to farmers. He expressed his belief that if this revolution in the field of agricultural technology is taken forward, it will increase the productivity of agriculture.

India and Japan agrees to deepen Maritime Relations.
Union Minister of Ports, Shipping & Waterways, Shri Sarbananda Sonowal held a bilateral meeting with His Excellency, Terada Yoshimichi, Japan’s Vice Minister for International Affairs, and the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport & Tourism (MLITT) in Oslo today. With a goal to deepen the maritime relations between the two countries, the meeting entailed discussions on multiple areas including investment by Japanese Shipyards, collaboration on port digitisation and green port initiatives, increase in R&D cooperation, upskilling human resources, employment of Indian seafarers in Japan among others.

Thai rice exports decline as India re-enters market.
Thailand’s rice exports from January to March 2025 faced significant challenges with more Indian rice entering the global market, according to a report from the Foreign Agricultural Service (FAS) of the US Department of Agriculture. During that time, Thai rice exports totaled 1.8 million tonnes, down 27% from the same period last year.

Mangoes sweeten Air India’s cargo performance.
Air India is reaping the benefits of high global demand for mangoes, which witnessed a 15 per cent increase in exports this season. Buoyed by increased cargo capacity, in April the airline shipped 1,000 tonnes of the king of fruit and volume in May is higher than the previous month, an airline spokesperson said. The UK, the US, UAE, Canada, France, Germany and the Netherlands are the main export destinations. The top varieties exported include Alphonso, Safeda (Banganpalli) and Dussehri.

India-US trade pact: Effort on to facilitate preferential market access for both sides, says Piyush Goyal.
India and the United States are keen on providing preferential market access to each other's businesses, with teams from both nations collaborating on a proposed bilateral trade agreement, Commerce Minister Piyush Goyal said on June 2. In February, Donald Trump and Narendra Modi underlined the two sides' intentions to negotiate the initial phase of a mutually advantageous multi-sector Bilateral Trade Agreement (BTA) by the fall of 2025, specifically targeting September-October.

Philippines Aims to Cut Reliance on Vietnam for Rice.
The Philippines, the world’s top rice importer, plans to look beyond its dominant supplier, Vietnam, to ensure steady supplies and competitive prices at home. The agriculture department is in talks with private importers on purchases from producers like India, Pakistan, Cambodia and Myanmar, Agriculture Secretary Francisco Tiu Laurel Jr. said in an interview on Friday. There may also be a 'deal' with Indonesia and Thailand, he added.

Cherry on the rake: Red drupes from Kashmir’s orchards make their way to Mumbai.
The first parcel train carrying freshly-plucked cherries from the Kashmir Valley reached Mumbai on Sunday evening, completing a journey of nearly 2,000 km in around 30 hours. The train departed from Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Katra station in Jammu on Saturday with a consignment of 10 to 12 tonnes of cherries, marking a milestone in efforts to boost horticulture exports from the region.

As part of the ongoing ‘Viksit Krishi Sankalp Abhiyan’, Union Minister of Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare, Shri Shivraj Singh Chouhan, on the fifth day of the campaign, interacted with farmers at the Krishi Vigyan Kendra in Piprakothi, East Champaran, Bihar. In his continued efforts of interacting with the farmers from Odisha, Jammu, Haryana, and Uttar Pradesh, Shri Chouhan engaged with the farming community of Bihar today.
