SUFALAM 2025: Set to Ignite Innovation in Food Processing Sector.
Ministry of Food Processing Industries, in collaboration with NIFTEM Kundli, is pleased to announce the second edition of SUFALAM (Start-Up Forum for Aspiring Leaders and Mentors), scheduled for April 25–26, 2025, at NIFTEM-K campus. Building on the success of its inaugural edition, this year’s conclave reinforces the Government of India’s commitment to fostering a vibrant start-up ecosystem in line with the vision of an ‘Atmanirbhar Bharat’. Punjab advances horticulture export with strategic initiatives.
Punjab Horticulture Minister Mr. Mohinder Bhagat chaired a high-level meeting with officials to discuss strategies aimed at boosting the export of fruits and vegetables from the state, expanding the area under horticulture, and increasing farmers’ income. The meeting was held at Punjab Kheti Bhawan, Mohali on Tuesday.

India likely to export up to 700,000 tons of sugar this season, ISMA member says.
India is likely to export 600,000-700,000 metric tons of sugar in the season to the end of September despite the government allowing 1 million tons of exports, a member of the Indian Sugar & Bio-Energy Manufacturers Association (ISMA) said on Thursday. The world's second-biggest sugar producer set the 1 million ton export allowance i9n January because the government and industry believed there was a surplus for overseas markets.

UP to promote manufacturing, preparing policy for Rs 5 trn annual exports.
The Uttar Pradesh (UP) government is preparing a new export policy that will give incentives to manufacturers for promoting industrial growth and 'boosting shipments', a senior government officer has said. The state is promoting manufacturing to attain its target of Rs 5 trillion in annual exports in four to five years. It made exports worth Rs 1.71 trillion in FY24. The state aims to increase its share in India's export basket from 4.71 per cent to 7.5 per cent over the years.

High US tariff on China, provides opportunity for India, but only if exporters play by rules: GTRI.
Exporters eyeing new opportunities in the US market amid high tariffs of up to 245 per cent on China must proceed with caution, warns a new report by the Global Trade Research Initiative (GTRI). The sharp rise in US tariffs on Chinese goods--up to 245 per cent--has opened a window for other countries like India, which has a much lesser tariff of 10 per cent at least till July 8, but the path is not without traps.

India International Coffee Festival in Bengaluru from Friday.
The three day India International Coffee Festival (IICF) 2025 will be organised in Bengaluru from April 24. The Speciality Coffee Association of India has been appointed as the nodal agency by the Coffee Board to organise the IICF, which will be held at Chamara Vajra on Jayamahal main road, Bengaluru. DM Purnesh, President, Speciality Coffee Association of India, said IICF 2025 has received very good response from the coffee stakeholders. There will be over 100 stalls at the event including coffee companies, roasters, growers, equipment vendors, and also food stalls, he said.

US Treasury Secy says India likely to be first to sign trade deal with Washington.
US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent has said he expects India to strike the first bilateral trade deal to avoid President Donald Trump's reciprocal tariffs, according to the New York Post. A 26 per cent 'reciprocal' tariff on Indian exports to the US is currently on a 90-day pause, set to expire on July 8. However, like other countries, India is presently subject to a 10 per cent tariff under the existing policy.

PM’s Saudi trip to push trade ties.
India and Saudi Arabia have agreed to deepen cooperation across multiple strategic sectors, including defence, investment, culture, and space after a meeting between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Prince Mohammed bin Salman. The announcement came during the second meeting of the India-Saudi Arabia Strategic Partnership Council (SPC) the two leaders.

India to slow but lead world: IMF.
The International Monetary Fund (IMF) Tuesday pared India's FY26 growth forecast to 6.2%, a cut of 30 basis points from its January projection, and slashed that for the global economy in calendar year 2025 by 50 basis points to 2.8%, citing trade tensions and enhanced uncertainty due to US tariffs. India will remain the fastest growing among emerging and advanced economies, as per the IMF's projections.

Indian govt reiterates it will buy 100% of pigeonpeas produced by farmers at MSP.
The Indian government has reiterated that it will procure 100 per cent of the tur (arhar or pigeonpeas) produced by farmers at the minimum support price (MSP) of Rs. 7,550 a quintal. The reiteration comes as the Centre extended the procurement timeline in Andhra Pradesh by a month for the pulse crop. In a statement, the Agriculture Ministry said the procurement at MSP through National Agricultural Cooperative Marketing Federation of India Ltd (Nafed) and National Cooperative Consumers’ Federation of India Ltd (NCCF) was in progress in Andhra Pradesh, Gujarat, Karnataka, Maharashtra and Telangana. A total quantity of 3.92 lakh tonnes of tur has been procured in these States, benefitting over 2.56 lakh farmers.
