National Level Multi-State Cooperative Society for Exports.
The Ministry of Cooperation has set up National Cooperative Exports Limited (NCEL) under the Multi-State Cooperative Societies (MSCS) Act, 2002 as an umbrella organization to give thrust to exports from cooperative sector. This society will focus on exporting the surpluses available in the Indian cooperative sector by accessing wider markets beyond the geographical contours of the country, thereby, increasing the demand of Indian Cooperative products/services across the globe and fetch best possible prices for such products/services. It will promote exports through various activities including procurement, storage, processing, marketing, branding, labelling, packaging, certification, research and development, etc, and trading of all types of goods and services produced by cooperative societies. The society will also help in arranging finance, provide technical guidance, help in training and capacity building, develop and maintain market intelligence system, implement related government schemes and undertake any other such activities which will increase exports from the cooperative sector and other related entities.

Govt proposes 2022-23 as base year for GDP, IIP: Minister.
The government has proposed 2022-23 as new base year for the Gross Domestic Product (GDP) and Index of Industrial Production (IIP), and 2024 for Consumer Price Index (CPI), Parliament was informed on Wednesday. 'The Ministry is underway to revise the base year of GDP, IIP and CPI. The base year is revised periodically to better capture the structural changes happening in the economy by updating the methodology of compilation and incorporation of new data sources,' Minister of State for Statistics & Programme Implementation said in a written reply to Lok Sabha.

GI tag sought for Madurai appalam, Thothal halwa.
The Tamil Nadu State Council for Science and Technology (TNSCST) has filed two applications seeking Geographical Indication (GI) tags for two popular local delicacies – the Madurai appalam and the Kilakarai Thothal halwa – in a bid to help local manufacturers maintain the quality and expand their markets. The GI application for Thothal halwa has been jointly filed by TNSCST and the Kilakarai Chellakani Thothal Association and for the Madurai appalam, by the TNSCST and the Appalam Vadagam Morvathal Manufacturers and Sellers Association, before the Geographical Indications Registry last week.

ISMA launches AI network to boost sugarcane productivity.
The Indian Sugar and Bio-energy Manufacturers Association (ISMA) on Tuesday announced the launching of national AI-ML network programme in partnership with Agriculture Development Trust (ADT) of Baramati, Maharashtra. The initiative leverages the power of artificial intelligence (AI) to significantly enhance sugarcane productivity, quality, sustainability, and farmers’ income, ISMA said.

11th Session of India-Russia Working Group on Modernization & Industrial Cooperation held in New Delhi.
The 11th Session of the India-Russia Working Group on Modernization and Industrial Cooperation was held today at Vanijya Bhawan, New Delhi, under the framework of the India-Russia Intergovernmental Commission on Trade, Economic, Scientific, Technological and Cultural Cooperation. From the Indian side, the session was co-chaired by Secretary, Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT), Ministry of Commerce and Industry, Shri Amardeep Singh Bhatia, and from the Russian side by Deputy Minister of Industry and Trade of the Russian Federation, H.E. Mr. Alexey Gruzdev.

Farmers’ interests remain paramount in Indo-US trade deal in agriculture: Centre.
The Centre on Tuesday informed the Lok Sabha that the interests of Indian farmers and national food security remain non-negotiable priorities in the ongoing discussions for an Indo-US bilateral trade agreement, especially in the agriculture sector. Responding to a question in the Lok Sabha, Minister of State for Agriculture and Farmers Welfare Ramnath Thakur said that India is actively engaged in negotiations aimed at expanding trade and investment ties with the United States under the proposed India-US Bilateral Trade Agreement.

India's Modi to visit China for first time in 7 years as tensions with US rise.
Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi will visit China for the first time in over seven years, a government source said on Wednesday, in a further sign of a diplomatic thaw with Beijing as tensions with the United States rise. Modi will go to China for a summit of the multilateral Shanghai Cooperation Organisation that begins on Aug. 31, the government source, with direct knowledge of the matter, told Reuters. India's foreign ministry did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

Supporting Schemes For Livestock Farmers, Dairy Producers And Fisherman.
The Central Government is implementing the National Livestock Mission (NLM), Animal Husbandry Infrastructure Development Fund (AHIDF), Rashtriya Gokul Mission (RGM), Livestock Health and Disease Control Programme LHDCP), National Programme for Dairy Development (NPDD), Pradhan Mantri Matsya Sampada Yojana (PM-MSY), Pradhan Mantri Matsya Kisan Samridhi Sah Yojana (PM-MKSSY), Fisheries and Aquaculture and Infrastructure Development Fund (FIDF) programs to assist livestock farmers, dairy producers and fishermen nationwide with the aim of boosting productivity, ensuring sustainable growth, and enhancing the livelihoods of those involved in animal husbandry, dairy and fishery sectors.

Indian agri products face SPS roadblocks to get FTA benefits from UK.
As the United Kingdom and European Union are moving towards an agreement on sanitary and phytosanitary (SPS) rules, Indian agricultural produce exporters may have to comply with stricter maximum residue limit (MRL) norms in the UK, potentially negating the zero-duty benefits under the recently concluded India-UK free trade agreement.
