Commercialisation of CoEs for fruits & vegetables.
The Union Government, under the Mission for Integrated Development of Horticulture (MIDH), provides support for setting up of Centres of Excellence (CoEs) for fruits and vegetables in collaboration with various stakeholders including bilateral partners. The Centres of Excellence in horticulture are established with the aim of serving as hubs for demonstration, training, and dissemination of the latest technologies in horticultural production by promoting capacity building, production and supply of planting material to potential farmers and adoption of new technologies in horticulture sector.

Ladakh boosts halman apricot exports to Middle East.
Ladakh, India, known for its premium apricot varieties including the GI-tagged 'Raktsey Karpo', produces about 15,868 tons annually from 2,612 hectares, with two-thirds of production from Kargil and one-third from Leh. In 2025, the Union Territory's Department of Industries and Commerce, in collaboration with the Agricultural and Processed Food Products Export Development Authority (APEDA), exported 1.5 tons of fresh Halman apricots to Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, and Qatar.

National Policy framework on Agriculture and Marketing (NPFAM).
Various States have established Agriculture Produce Market Committees (APMCs) as per local needs to support farmers, including small and marginal farmers as agricultural marketing is a state subject. To facilitate farmers in selling their produce at fair price without the interference of middlemen, Government of India has launched National Agriculture Market (e-NAM) platform in 2016. e-NAM platform has significantly benefited rural farmers by increasing market access, improved price discovery, reduced transaction costs, access to wider markets, reduced dependence on local market and improved income opportunities.

Government of Ghana signs MoU with India.
Government of the Republic of Ghana has signed a strategic Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Bengaluru-based Posspole Pvt. Ltd., to accelerate agricultural modernisation, rural infrastructure development, and electronics manufacturing in West Africa. The agreement was signed between Dr Peter Boamah Otokunor, minister and presidential advisor for Agriculture and Agribusiness, Republic of Ghana, representing the Government of Ghana, and Kiran Rudrappa, CEO of Posspole Pvt. Ltd., during the minister’s visit to the company’s facilities in India.

India signs trade cooperation pact with Zambia to boost cooperative exports.
India has signed an agreement with Zambia to promote trade alliances between cooperatives of both nations, Cooperation Minister Amit Shah said on Tuesday. The cooperation ministry is working to strengthen India's cooperative export ecosystem through Indian missions abroad, Shah said in a written reply to the Lok Sabha.

Ministry of Food Processing Industries organised Ambassadors’ Meet at Sushma Swaraj Bhawan, New Delhi, to discuss overseas participation in the World Food India (WFI) 2025. The fourth edition of 'World Food India’ is being organised by the Ministry of Food Processing Industries, from September 25 to 28, 2025, at Bharat Mandapam, New Delhi. The event will showcase Indian Food Processing Sector, with collaborations and investments from global Stakeholders.

Indian banks increase scrutiny of exporters after 50% US tariffs.
The exporters are facing heavy challenges after the recent imposition of heavy tariffs from the President of the United States Donald Trump. Several banks from India have now increased scrutiny over the new loan applications given by the exporters. As per the reports, the banks have begun asking exporters how much they are exposed to the American market. They have also been asked to present their contingency plans going forward to battle the heavy import duties introduced by Trump.

Rice imports hit 7-year high amid production shortfall.
Public and private importers brought in 14.36 lakh tonnes of rice last fiscal year, the highest since FY18, when Bangladesh imported 31.6 lakh tonnes of the staple, according to official data. Experts, however, said Bangladesh was not supposed to import any rice had the production data been correct. The nation was supposed to have a surplus.

With 90% of normal area covered, India’s kharif crops sowing up 4% year-on-year.
Helped by continuous surplus rains in most parts of the country after mid-June, farmers have covered over 90 per cent of the normal area of about 1,097 lakh hectares (lh) so far in the ongoing kharif season, the Agriculture Ministry said. Experts are hoping for a normal yield, despite some reports of crop damage in some States. However, if there is excess rain during pre-harvest period in September, standing crops may face the risk of disease.

MoFPI implements R&D initiatives for developing food processing technologies.
MoFPI is implementing a Research and Development Scheme, which is a part of Human Resource & Institutions Scheme under the umbrella scheme i.e. Pradhan Mantri Kisan SAMPADA Yojana (PMKSY). Under the scheme, financial assistance as Grant-in-aid is given to various Universities, IITs, Central/ State Government Institutions, Government funded organisations, R&D laboratories and CSIR recognised R&D units in private sector to promote and undertake demand driven R&D work in food processing sector.
