The World Bank on Tuesday raised India’s growth forecast for the financial year 2025-26 to 6.5% from its earlier projection of 6.3% in June, citing resilient domestic demand, positive impact of the tax reforms, and strong rural recovery. 'India is expected to remain the world’s fastest-growing major economy, underpinned by continued strength in consumption growth,' the World Bank said in its South Asia Development Update.

Commerce Secretary Rajesh Agrawal will visit Brussels this week to meet European Commission Director General for Trade Sabine Weyand to give impetus to the ongoing negotiations on the proposed free trade agreement, Union Minister Piyush Goyal said on Tuesday. The Commerce and Industry Minister said 'very' good discussions are going on between the EU and India in Brussels.

India and Qatar are on track to finalise a Free Trade Agreement (FTA) by mid-2026, Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal announced Monday during a business delegation visit aimed at expanding bilateral trade and investment. 'I would think that sometime by the middle of next year, or third quarter of next year, we will be able to finalise an FTA, if not earlier,' Goyal told reporters in Doha.

Under the revised norms, exporters shipping rice to EU member states and European countries, namely the United Kingdom, Iceland, Liechtenstein, Norway and Switzerland, are permitted subject to issuance of certificate of inspection by the Export Inspection Council or Export Inspection Agency. However, for other European countries, the mandatory inspection certificate requirement has been temporarily waived for six months, until April 2, 2026.

External affairs minister S Jaishankar on Sunday expressed confidence that ongoing tariff disagreements between India and the United States will not derail the overall trade relationship, stressing that both nations are engaged in active dialogue to resolve the matter. Speaking at the Kautilya Economic Conclave (KEC 2025), Jaishankar said that despite certain friction points, much of India’s trade with the U.S. continues unaffected. He attributed the tariff issues to a lack of consensus on key trade matters, noting that until both sides reach common ground, levies will remain a sticking point.

India is speeding up its free trade agreement (FTA) talks with Chile and Peru in its attempt to diversify trade given the US tariff challenge, sources said. 'Negotiators are trying to move towards concluding the India-Chile FTA soon and substantial results are expected by the year-end. With Peru, the FTA may take a bit longer, but things are progressing steadily. The visit of Indian negotiators to the two South American countries, beginning October 25, for face-to-face talks, will speed up things,' a person tracking the matter told businessline.
