Sep 02, 2025 News Image Union Minister of Commerce & Industry, Shri Piyush Goyal holds bilateral meeting with UAE Minister of Foreign Trade to deepen CEPA.
Union Minister of Commerce & Industry, Shri Piyush Goyal, held a bilateral meeting with H.E. Dr. Thani bin Ahmed Al Zeyoudi, Minister of Foreign Trade of the United Arab Emirates (UAE), on 29th August 2025 with the objective of further deepening the India–UAE Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA). Both Ministers emphasized the importance of working closely in the current global scenario to strengthen the bilateral economic partnership. Shri Goyal highlighted the resilience and inherent strengths of the Indian economy which have enabled it to surge ahead during challenging times. The Ministers agreed on the importance of working with diverse partners for mutual benefit.

Union Minister of Agriculture & Farmers’ Welfare and Rural Development Shri Shivraj Singh Chouhan today held a meeting in New Delhi to review the nationwide status of the agriculture sector. In the high-level meeting, Shri Shivraj Singh reviewed the rainfall situation across various states and held detailed discussions with officials regarding the floods in parts of Punjab and their impact on crops. During the meeting, Shri Shivraj Singh said that the farmers of Punjab, who were affected by floods, should not worry as the Central Government stands firmly with the affected farmers in this hour of natural calamity. He informed that he will visit the flood-affected areas of Punjab soon to take stock of the situation on the ground and personally meet the distressed farmers to ensure all possible assistance.

Sep 02, 2025 News Image European buyers bought more Indian basmati this year as Pakistan’s was expensive, says Tilda brand owner Ebro.
European buyers purchased more basmati from India this year than from Pakistan, as the latter was $250 a tonne more expensive, according to Graham Carter, Managing Director of Ebro India Pvt Ltd. 'Pakistani basmati was consistently $250-plus more expensive than Indian this year. Two years ago, we had the reverse. India was $200 more expensive than Pakistan,' he told businessline in an online interaction.

In a significant milestone for India’s smallholder farmers, the Ule Farmers Producer Company (FPC) from Solapur, Maharashtra, has successfully exported its first full-scale banana consignment to Oman. The 20-metric-tonne shipment, facilitated in partnership with agritech platform Vegrow, marks a breakthrough for farmer collectives aspiring to tap international markets.

Indian exporters of rice, tractors, and certain gems and jewellery items have been diversifying beyond the US to other markets even prior to President Donald Trump imposing 50% tariffs effective August 27. Exports to the US of certain gems and jewellery articles fell 20% to $642.9 million in the June quarter from the year before while surging 76% to $1.6 billion to the UAE. Rice exports to the US fell 4.8% in the same period while rising to Bangladesh, the UAE, Togo, and Kenya.

The India-UK Free Trade Agreement (FTA) signed between Prime Ministers Narendra Modi and Keir Starmer on July 24 will slash trade tariffs from 15 per cent to 3 per cent and boost business confidence in an increasingly volatile world, the British Parliament was told on Monday. As members of Parliament returned to the House of Commons in London after the summer recess, UK Business and Trade Secretary Jonathan Reynolds tabled a statement to update MPs on the pre-ratification process underway before the trade deal can come into force.

Union Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan on Monday announced creation of a dedicated portal to address farmers' complaints and also asked his officials to quickly resolve their problems. According to an official statement, the minister held a high-level meeting to review the resolution of complaints received from farmers through call centres and other portals.

The Centre has fixed rice procurement target at 463.50 lakh tonnes from paddy crops grown during the current Kharif (summer-sown) season. On Monday, the Department of Food and Public Distribution held a meeting with Food Secretaries of States/UTs and Food Corporation of India (FCI) to discuss the arrangements for procurement of crops in the ensuing Kharif Marketing Season (KMS) 2025-26 starting October.

India’s horticulture sector recorded impressive growth over the past decade, driven by the government’s strategy to diversify into high-value agriculture as part of the goal to double farmers’ income in the country. As of August 2025, for 2024-25 (second advanced estimates), horticulture production increased from 280.70 million tonnes in 2013-14 to 367.72 million tonnes. This includes fruit production of 114.51 million tonnes, vegetable production of 219.67 million tonnes, and 33.54 million tonnes from other horticulture crops.
