Trade talks US Envoy Gor meets commerce secretary.
US ambassador-designate Sergio Gor on Sunday held talks with Commerce Secretary Rajesh Agrawal on India-US economic ties with the two sides looking at ways to firm up a trade deal. Gor, accompanied by Deputy Secretary for Management and Resources Michael J Rigas, is on a six-day visit, days after his appointment as the US envoy to India was confirmed by the Senate.

Union Minister of Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare, and Rural Development, Shivraj Singh Chouhan addressed an important press conference in New Delhi, elaborating on the ambitious schemes to be launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The free trade agreement between India and the UK will help boost the country's exports and attract investments from Britain, according to experts. The Comprehensive Economic and Trade Agreement (CETA) was signed on July 24 and is likely to come into force next year.

India taking up export barriers with Russia.
India has identified more than 65 non-tariff barriers faced by its marine exports to Russia as well as the hurdles that its agricultural exports are subject to, as it aims to lower the trade deficit with the country, said officials. 'India is taking up with Russia the issue of non-tariff barriers. Most are in agriculture and marine,' said one of the officials, who did not wish to be identified.

Swiss envoy Maya Tissafi hails India-EFTA trade pact as milestone after 16 years of talks.
Swiss Ambassador to India and Bhutan, Maya Tissafi, has described the newly signed free trade agreement between India and the European Free Trade Association (EFTA) countries as a 'very important step' after 16 years of negotiations, marking a new chapter in bilateral cooperation. Speaking to at the Swiss Art Night event in New Delhi, Ambassador Tissafi said, 'We have started the free trade agreement. I believe this was a crucial step, following 16 years of negotiations, to establish a free trade agreement between the EFTA countries, comprising Liechtenstein, Norway, Iceland, and Switzerland, and India. We are really reinforcing our relationship in different topics, not only in culture, but in economy, innovation and education as well.'

India, Canada trade ministers discuss ways to strengthen economic ties.
Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal on Saturday held discussions with his Canadian counterpart Maninder Sidhu on ways to strengthen economic ties between the two countries. 'We discussed ways to find mutually beneficial opportunities for our businesses to capitalise on the complementarities offered by our two economies. I emphasised that economic, trade and investment ties between India and Canada should be grounded in the principles of mutual respect, trust and balance,' Goyal said in a post on X.

India exports 7.75 lakh ton sugar in 2024-25.
India is estimated to have exported 7.75 lakh tonnes of sugar in the marketing season that ended September, trade body AISTA said on Sunday, urging the government to announce an early export quota for the new season. The sugar marketing season runs from October to September. Sugar exports for the 2024-25 marketing season in India were allowed on January 20, 2025.

Russia set to increase sunflower oil exports to India.
Russia – the world’s leading sunflower oil producer – is planning to increase exports to India in a bid to replace Ukrainian supplies that are being redirected to Europe, according to a Reuters report quoting the state agricultural export agency. India was a major buyer of Russian energy, and the two countries had maintained close ties despite pressure from the USA on India to curb purchases, the 26 September report said.

Iran’s large kiwi crop eases prices for Indian importers.
India enjoys year-round availability of imported kiwifruit, mainly the Hayward variety, brought in from Chile, Iran, and New Zealand, with smaller quantities arriving from Greece and Italy, says Jatin Bajaj of fresh produce importer Gyan Fruit Company. 'The good news is that Iranian supply has increased by 150%, making their fruit far cheaper this season. New Zealand kiwis tend to be the priciest, with Chile close behind.'

India’s ICAR panel shortlists 23 new wheat varieties for commercial release.
A key panel of the Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR) has approved a total of 28 new varieties of wheat and barley for the seed sub-committee to consider for release. This comes when the wheat sowing season is set to begin.
