India's National Co-operative Exports Limited (NCEL) is a new national cooperative federation envisioned to supply a range of Indian grapes, pomegranates, bananas, mangoes, and onions directly to overseas buyers, says Sanjay Suryawanshi, Business Head, Fruits and Vegetables. 'Approved by the Union Cabinet and registered in January 2023, the federation now works with around 11,585 member cooperatives, spanning major producing states and crop categories.'

The meeting marked a significant step towards operationalising the India–UK Comprehensive Economic and Trade Agreement (CETA), with both Ministers agreeing to reposition the Joint Economic and Trade Committee (JETCO) to oversee its implementation and delivery.

India could unlock transformative growth in manufacturing and exports by combining tariff reductions with broader trade agreements that expand market access and ease non-tariff barriers, said Franziska Ohnsorge, World Bank’s chief economist for South Asia, calling for trade reforms coupled with internal measures for bigger gains. 'If this (higher US tariffs) can be the trigger for finalising these trade agreements that have been under negotiation for a long time, it could be transformative, especially for manufacturing,' Ohnsorge said in an interview.

British Prime Minister Keir Starmer begins a two-day visit to India on Wednesday with the Scotch whisky industry in the spotlight as a 'big winner' of the India-UK Free Trade Agreement (FTA), which the UK government expects will grow the Scottish economy by 190 million pounds a year. Downing Street said Scotch Whisky Association members and producers are part of Starmer's trade mission to explore first-hand a potential increase in whisky sales to India worth an estimated 1 billion pounds a year, creating more than 1,000 new UK jobs.

A collaboration between Indian and New Zealand researchers and apple growers is being developed, with industry representatives from both countries expecting benefits. Steve Ainsworth, divisional manager for bilateral relations and trade at the Ministry for Primary Industries, said that in September, New Zealand High Commissioner Patrick Rata and a delegation from the New Zealand apple sector met with Sukhvinder Singh, Chief Minister of Himachal Pradesh, to discuss apple industry cooperation.

The Commerce Ministry has authorised its agri-export promotion body, APEDA, to retain a 30 per cent share of the funds collected from the registration fee for non-Basmati export contracts, which is set at Rs. 8 per tonne (plus GST), while simultaneously establishing a committee to decide on the utilisation of the remaining funds. This arrangement, however, has created dissatisfaction among many Basmati rice exporters who are questioning how they were compelled to share 50 per cent of the funds for a similar developmental purpose.

The first day of his visit began with a floral tribute to the statue of Mahatma Gandhi at the Embassy of India in Doha, followed by the planting of a sapling under the 'Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam' initiative, symbolising India's commitment to sustainability and environmental stewardship, as per the release.

German Ambassador to India, Philipp Ackermann said that Germany is trying to help Indian farming techniques be more efficient and sustainable. Ackermann, who also met Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh N Chandrababu Naidu, told ANI that collaboration in the field of agriculture has been great. 'I think agriculture is an important area here. Germany is active here. Already together with the government, we are trying to make farming more efficient and sustainable. So, there are programmes here to convince farmers to go to natural farming and get efficiency up. That's a big project we are doing together with the Indian government and as far as I know, this project has been very successful so far.'
